Q: What is LBMA and what does it do? A: The Long Beach Management Association (LBMA) is the organization that represents and advocates for City management staff in MOU negotiations that impact salary and benefits, as well as any other labor issues that impact managers. LBMA is dedicated to supporting the professional development of its’ members, broadening professional networks through exciting social and volunteer events, and supporting the many rewards of serving as a manager in the City of Long Beach!

Q: How do I join LBMA? A: To join LBMA, email info@clublbma.org. Our Outreach Chair will send you a welcome letter with instructions on how to start your membership.

Q: How much are dues? A: Dues are $20 per month, automatically deducted from your paycheck. As a dues-paying member, you receive free access to training, mixers, and lunches.

Q: When I send in my dues form, how long will it take for money to be taken out of my paycheck? A: Once the Outreach Board Member submits your dues form to Central Payroll, deductions typically begin within one to two pay periods.

Q: How do I book my free physical at Memorial Care? A: To schedule your executive physical, call (562) 933-4700 or email CityofLBExecutivePhysicals@memorialcare.org. Additional diagnostic appointments can also be arranged through this contact.

Q: Does LBMA provide legal representation if I need support in a disagreement with my supervisor? A: While LBMA does not provide legal representation, the LBMA labor relations team is happy to consult on minor matters to discuss processes and options. If you require individual representation for a serious workplace dispute, we recommend consulting a private attorney.

Q: I haven’t joined LBMA yet, but an event is coming up soon. Can I still attend? A: Yes! Non-members are welcome to attend one event before joining. Email the Outreach Chair to make arrangements for your participation

Q: I’m in an Acting management role. Can I join LBMA? A: LBMA membership is available to employees in permanent management classifications. Acting roles do not qualify for membership

Q: I have questions regarding my salary and what impacts compensation? A: If you have questions regarding the salary structure, ranges, or what MOU provisions drive salary changes, email the LBMA President or labor relations team. They will review your concerns, and speak with you regarding the process, and discuss options.

Q: I have questions or concerns about my Management Performance Evaluation (MPE). What can I do? A: Please contact someone from the LBMA labor relations team and they will schedule a time to meet with you and review the process, impacts on salary, and any other questions you may have. Q: How are LBMA officers elected, and how can members get involved in leadership roles? A: The bylaws that govern LBMA leadership selection are listed on the Membership Info tab of the LBMA website.

Q: How do members stay informed about upcoming events and negotiations? A: (link to calendar/website)

Q: Where can members access information about current MOU agreements and updates? A: The current LBMA MOU is listed on the Membership Info tab of the LBMA website.

Q: How can members get more involved in LBMA activities or committees? A: Volunteer at upcoming events or reach to an LBMA Board member and ask to get involved!
